Hotel prices

Kiev has a number of top-end hotels including the five-star Hyatt, InterContinental and Premier Palace and the four-star Radisson, but all these venues charge intermediate international nightly rates. Lower down the ladder there is very little of quality on offer. Most three-star or two-star Ukrainian hotels are overpriced for the level of service they provide. This is partly due to the high occupancy rates they enjoy as a result of insufficient supply, and partly due to the inability to transition from the modest tastes of the Soviet era to the more indulgent service standards which are expected by today’s travelers.

I would strongly recommend any budget traveler looking at visiting Kiev to consider renting an apartment. Good quality two and three room apartments in the city centre are often available for less than $ 100 per night and costs can easily be shared between two to four guests, making this both economical and convenient. There are a number of websites offering these services and the sector is quite well developed so non-Russian speakers should have no trouble finding their way.
