Shopping Malls

There is no better way to celebrate the passing of the old Communist way of life in Kiev that to spend a bit of your time in the city on a good old fashioned capitalist spending spree. Happily, there are a good quantity of shopping malls where you can easily grab a bargain or treat yourself to a special bit of luxury during your stay.

Globus Shopping Mall

The Globus Shopping Mall in Independence Square (nearest Metro station: Maidan) is a huge, modern shopping centre with three floors of shops and restaurants where you will  find a healthy range of international brands and designer labels such as Levi’s, Esprit, Polo and Tommy Hilfiger. It is the best place for serious clothes shopping, although the prices of its designer stores can be expensive. The top floor of the mall is also packed with cafés and a cheap fast food canteen is located on the ground floor.

Tsum

Tsum (address: B. Khmelnitskogo 2; nearest Metro station: Teatralna) is an old-fashioned Soviet style shopping centre that is slowly becoming a more modern, western-style establishment. The four floors offer a good range of clothes, shoes, books, bags, cosmetics, etc., but Tsum is especially noted for its range of in-house services which include watch repair, passport photos, and tailoring services, making it a useful place to stop and patch yourself up during your travels.

Magelan Mall

The huge Magelan Mall, situated outside of the city centre at 13b Glushkova, has everything from a (Russian language) cinema, a bowling alley and a nightclub to a range of clothes, shoes and beauty shops.

Mandarin Plaza

Kiev’s most expensive designer shopping mall, Mandarin Plaza (address: 6 Basseynaya St; nearest Metro station: L’va Tolstogo Square) is better for window-shopping than actual purchases. If you have to ask the price, you probably can’t afford it here among seven stories of Mont Blanc, Max Mara, Valentino and Givenchy boutiques.
